International Financial Law Review 1000 - 2005 Ed (IFLR1000)
Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC
Book November 2004
The IFLR1000 is in its fifteenth year. The current edition covers 119 jurisdictions. Each country section contains rankings of the top law firms advising on corporate and financial law (banking, capital markets, insolvency, mergers & acquisitions, and project finance), as well as editorial describing those firms' activities over the past year. The editorial is based on research conducted by our journalists, effected by requesting submissions from the firms as well as by interviews conducted with private practice lawyers and their clients.
Each country section also contains an article, written by a lawyer from one of that country's leading firms, on regulatory or legislative developments affecting corporate finance activity in that country. At the back of each country section, firms can decide to pay for a listing, where they can display their contact details, address etc.
To ensure editorial integrity is retained, the paid section is kept entirely separate from the editorial section - in other words, firms cannot buy a good ranking. The research process starts at the beginning of January in each year, when the team of journalists sends out the questionnaires (requesting information from the firms) to each firm in the country. The deadline for returning the questionnaires is mid-April in each year. Between the beginning of March and the end of May, the journalists conduct interviews with pawyers and their clients, determining their opinion on the current edition's rankings, and to see whether, on the strength of how active each ranked firm has been over the past year, any changes to the rankings should be made (ie. whether firms should move up or down the rankings). Once the interviewing is complete, and all questionnaires have been returned to us, the journalists assess the findings of the research and write up the editorial.
The IFLR1000 is published in October each year.
